by Dr. Marques
On 8th instant Dr. Marques fell sick, and, at the suggestions of the Acting Colonial Surgeon, I endeavoured to obtain the services of a Military Surgeon for a few days to undertake such medico-legal work as there was. I then learnt that there might be no Military Surgeon available at the instant. I directed that Dr Whany should be required to perform those duties during the temporary illness of Dr Marques.
Dr Marques, it may be remarked, has undertaken night duties at the hospital for a few weeks, to enable his brother officer, Dr Whany, although it formed part of his duties, to pass his nights at the Peak, instead of at the Hospital quarters.
Dr Whany on 4th instant, in reply, refused to undertake these duties although he was warned that there was a body lying in the Public Mortuary awaiting examination.
Dr Whany is informed that he is charged with disobedience of orders without sufficient reason or excuses and is hereby required to send in an answer to this charge in writing by the 12th instant, which falls on Friday. His answer will be considered by the Governor in Executive Council.
